Up through the 1800's, ferries were the only way to get to and around Manhattan. As bridges and tunnels were built, ferry transportation faded. In 1986, NY Waterway began service, transporting commuters and tourists between New York City and New Jersey. Since then, NY Waterway has carried over 65 million passengers. This panorama was photographed as one of NY Waterway’s boats approaches their new 39th. street terminal in NYC.
