The oldest operated ship lift in germany can be found in Niederfinow in the district of Barnim/Brandenburg. Ships can transcend an altitude difference of 36m with it. The ship lift was built between 1927 and 1934 for 27.5 million Reichsmark (about 82.5 million Euro today). The construction consists of 14.0000 tons steel - the 85m long and 12m wide hutch has a weight von 4.000 tons (4.290 tons incl. water). A new ship lift is plannend to be finished in 2011, because the old one has reached his capacity range. The panorama shows the sideview of the 27m wide and 60m high construction with the lifted hutch, fixed on 256 steelcables.
