This is home of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), the nation's largest municipal utility, established more than 100 years ago to deliver reliable, safe water and electricity to some 3.8 million residents and businesses in Los Angeles.

Last Monday (September 12th) a LADWP worker plugged a wire into the wrong outlet and accidentally cut power to nearly half of the city for over two hours. Over 700,000 customers were suddenly left in the dark. I guess this shows what a fragile system we are depending on every day.

Due to a busy schedule, I was running out of time Sunday afternoon when I decided it might be cool to get a shot of the large array of Solar Panels surrounding the building which seem to be providing shade for parked cars (I hope they also provide some electricity for someone). It was difficult to get a good vantage point for the solar panels, but this position did provide a nice view of the Disney Concert Hall directly behind you.

The other large building right across the street is the back and loading dock of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. To the right of the Disney Hall (obscured from our view by the trees) is the apartment building which made the news shortly after the Hall's completion. It seemed light reflecting off the bright shiny building was being focused directly into the apartments and was causing plastic deck furniture to melt and sending temperatures soaring above 100 degrees. The surface of the building had to be treated to cut down on the reflection.
