Big Boats Race from the Golden Gate Bridge to Treasure Island in San Francisco. The 40th Annual St. Francis Perpetual Trophy Regatta, better known as the Big Boat Series, was held on San Francisco Bay from September 16-19. This panorama was shot from the end of the breakwater that extends beyond the St. Francis Yacht Club in front of Marina Green. In addition to the Golden Gate Bridge and several of the participating boats you can see Sasalito and Tiberon across the bay, Angel Island and Alcatraz Island, other SF Bay traffic including a cruise ship near Alcatraz and a ferry boat. The San Francisco Bay Bridge is just visible in the distance beyond the masts of the 1886 square-rigger Balclutha at the Hyde Street Pier - part of the National Maritime Museum. The structure you see near the end of the breakwater is a wave organ that was constructed in 1986 of granite columns and other stones from a Gold Rush era cemetary.
