Granite Mountain overlooks Robin Lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness of Washington State. At this time of the year, the higher alpine lakes are still frozen. They will not melt for several more weeks.

Like all official U.S. Wilderness Areas, the Alpine Lakes Wilderness is in nearly original condition and is closed by law to all mechanical vehicles and motorized equipment. Travel is by foot only, and even trail maintenance must be done using only hand tools. The Wilderness Areas contain some of the finest scenery left essentially untouched by the hand of man. They take some hiking to get to, but they're well worth the trip.
