Lake Kleifarvatn is located in one of Iceland's seismologically most active areas on the Reykjanes Peninsula, south of Reykjavik. In 2000 the water level of the lake suddenly started to drop rapidly possibly due to an earthquake. Since then the water level has been slowly rising again.
