Each spring, the local branches of the Salvation Army sponsors a "yard sale" where items donated to the organization are sold from tables set up in a parking lot. Proceeds from the sale fund the organization's local activities. This neighborhood, along Central Avenue just east of uptown Charlotte, is an eclectic mix - differing incomes, racial and national origins and age groups. Artists live alongside bankers, just down the street from immigrants from around the world.
