The Mountain Spirit Center is a Zen Buddhist study and retreat complex in a serene canyon of the high desert between Mojave and Tehachapi. The site was founded in 1993, and has since been developed by students and guests with several beautiful buildings, and a recently-cast iron peace bell that will be dedicated in the coming months. Some 120 miles from Los Angeles, and surrounded by desert and agricultural valleys, the Mountain Spirit Center provides peaceful sanctuary to fellow Buddhists who manage to escape the bustle of the cities for a brief stay, or an extended study.
