About the Photographer

Portrait
Robert Bilsland
Panoramas Unlimited
Malvern, Worcestershire, England.

Robert shoots spherical panoramas as a hobby that he enjoys doing. He first found spherical panoramas on the Internet in the late 90's and then found Helmut Dersch's Panotools in 1999. His first spherical panorama was created with 35 photos (5 rows of 7 photos) taken on a 35mm camera and a normal wide-angle lens. The individual photos were then scanned and stitched together. The colour balances changed between photos, but it proved what could be done.

His first QuickTime panorama was a cylindrical one created for the millennium wrinkle-in-time event. After this he bought a Nikon Coolpix 990 and fisheye lens and set about shooting spherical panoramas. Since then he has shot many panoramas of Malvern and the surrounding area where he lives. He has shot panoramas at Weddings, local agricultural shows and rugby matches. His work can be found on his own website (www.panoramasunlimited.com) and his local BBC regional website (BBC Hereford & Worcester). He also creates personalised versions of PTViewer to better fit the websites where a panorama is going to be shown.

When he is not shooting panoramas he works on major catalogue e-commerce websites in the UK and other smaller websites for local businesses. But even when he is not shooting panoramas, he is always thinking where the next panorama could be shot.
