IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - BEST OF 2005

We are planning a special edition of the World Wide Panorama - a showcase of our best VR panoramas of 2005. It will debut on New Year's Day 2006.

I think most of us have probably taken a panorama which we are very pleased with - but that didn't fit within the time frame or theme of one of the WWP events. Or perhaps you took two different subjects for the WWP that were equally good, but could only submit one. Well, this is your chance to show off that best panorama - with world wide publicity.

The rules are even simpler than usual.

-- Photography must have been done between December 31, 2004 and December 28, 2005. That is when we must close the preparation server to create the final site. If your ambition is to photograph on this New Year's Eve, we can make a special arrangement, but no guarantee that your pano will appear on the site when it debuts on January 1.

-- The usual guidelines on format, dimensions, and files sizes will apply. But one additional item - all entries MUST include a fullscreen version. If it's your best, you will want to show it in fullscreen. The rules are at: http://geoimages.berkeley.edu/wwp/practical/Rules.html

-- No restrictions on theme. One of the best things about the original WWP (March 2004) was the incredible range of subject matter, limited only by the requirement to shoot on a single day. This event should be even more diverse, with a whole year of panoramas to choose from.

-- Open to all panoramic photographers. We originally planned to limit participation to those who had shot for one of the previous WWP events. But we don't want to exclude anyone who wants to join in, or to miss a potentially great panorama by a new entrant. So, welcome all - spread the word and bring a friend.

-- Do not submit a panorama that has already been published on the WWP (even if it is truly your best of 2005). Only one submission per participant.

-- If you feel that you need a theme and time frame to do your best work, here is your assignment. Photography between December 15 and 25. The theme is "my best panorama of 2005".

Over the past two years 536 individuals have participated in the World Wide Panorama events, contributing 1434 panoramas to the site. We hope this will be THE event of the year for VR photography.
