A secret place of energy and power--physical, creative, potential, kinetic and more--filled with the simple and the complex; off the grid, self-generating power to run a blower for a handmade coal forge, a hundred year old DC motor and a Beaudry tap hammer.

Perhaps only art or love takes energy, uses energy and gives energy in immoderate, nonformulaic, impossible ways.

Robert Parker is a sculptor in metal who blacksmiths and welds to manifest his vision. The red hot metal he works with holds the energy of the earth in a most direct way. Our planet's core is iron. Using his tools and muscle-power, he affects a metamorphosis of old found iron into a statement of personal power. His studio is a cornucopia of sculpture and tools and machines and motors and bicycles and chandeliers and structures spanning over a hundred years. A two hundred foot wall has been covered with graffitti by local teenagers (another energy).

The sun was low over the buildings, streaming into the space as I took the shots for this pano. The strange light was part of the moment. I decided to use the exaggerated lens flare to keep the focus of the pano more intimate and close in.
