Constructed from 1922 to 1926, the Delaware River Bridge opened on July 1, 1926 to span the Delaware River connecting Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Camden, New Jersey as the world's longest suspension bridge. That record was surpassed 5 years later by the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson River. In 1956 the bridge was renamed Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The bridge is currently undergoing a 7-year stripping and repainting project, which is sorely needed as can be seen on the handrail. The south-side footpath affords an unobstructed spectacular view of the Philadelphia skyline, but was closed because of the renovation project. The day after I took this panorama, I returned to the bridge footpath in the early evening to take a panorama of the bridge in the setting sun. A Delaware River Port Authority Police officer drove up to me in a jeep and told me that I was not allowed to take photographs on the bridge. I obediently broke down my tripod and equipment and left, despite not having captured the panorama I wanted.
