This cubic VR was taken from the north side of the Grand River as it flows through Grand Haven, Michigan just before entering Lake Michigan. The bridge with the blue span is highway US 31. This drawbridge, during the summer, will stop traffic to open allowing tall (sail) boats to pass on their way to or from their moorings upstream. This bridge is scheduled to be replaced by a tall span and will likely pass through the spot this picture was taken from.
The swing bridge to the right is a train crossing. Normally, the swing bridge is in the open position allowing boats to pass freely. Twice a day, a freight train will pass through. First the train must come to a full stop, the trainman must manually activate the controls to swing the bridge closed to allow the train to pass, stop again and open the bridge for boat traffic.
The third bridge isn't much, but I was standing on it to take these pictures. :)
