The Dragon Boat Festival is the 5th day of the 5th month on the lunar calendar.

It was memorial for Chinese poet Qu Yuan(屈原), a minister during the Warring States Period (475 - 221 BC) , who drowned himself in the Mi Lo River over 2,000 years ago to protest against the corrupt rulers.

Legend says that as townspeople attempted to rescue him, they beat drums to scare fish away and threw zong-zi(粽子 rice-and-meat dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves) into the river to keep the fish from eating Qu Yuan's body.

Today in Taiwan, it become the particular interest of local and foreign community for the international division dragon boats racing in a lively.
