In the city, community heating is an easy way to heat and (in summer) cool office buildings.

Hot steam is made in a large heating station and then distributed over dozends of kilometers to the customers. The steam pipeline has a maximum pressure of 3,5bar (=50psi) and a maximum temperature of 180°C (=350°F).

Three meters below manhole 135 (Schacht 135 in German) lies this inspection chamber. It is beneath the street of Goetheplatz in Frankfurt/Main. While shooting the photos, the temperature in the cave was near 40°C (=100°F), not very comfortable in summer.
