The most famous gethering of artists' community in No. 798 Factory in Beijing.

Designed by East Germany, constructed with help of USSR, completed in 1957. It used to be the Beijing No.3 State-owned Wireless Electronic Equipment Factory. Whereas it played a vital role in building Chinese industrial and military capacity, making important contributions to the Chinese nuclear program, satellite launch technology and other large scale military and industrial project.

It's only in the 1980's that this state-owned government industrial factory started to decline and fall, which created real opportunities for the experimental Chinese artists, the current “cultural occupying forces” of Factory 798. Now this loft area is filled with the artists' galleries, studios, bars and bookstores.
