The Canadian Shield is a rough country. In XIX century, when an intencive area development began, many settlers were granted a land and started developing this wild country. Not all of them were successfull. Poor soil, rocky landscape, long and cold winter - all this did not make their life easy. Finally, after years of attempts to maintain their life, many people left the area. Tens of places, where we may see now only remains of former communities, remind this time... This panorama shows one of the "ghost community" of Balaclava, near Dacre, Ontario. Located at the river rapids and the mill built here, it was finally abandoned in mid-XX century. I thank my friend Dave Lute who accompanied me in this travel. More panoramas of Balaclava and other ghost site - Newfoundout, you may see here: http://dimensions360.com/index.php?screen=gallery&key=fbe6849d
