Singapore The country and island between Malaysia and Indonesia with 692.7 sq km land and a coastline of 193 km. In 1950 the population of about 1 million people consumed 142.000 cubic metre water a day. Today 4 million people consume 1.400.000 cubic metre. The demand increased by factor 9, the same time population increased 4 times. Singapore highly depend from reservoirs (rain water) and imported water from Malaysia. Well planned and looking into the future there is no shortage in sight, even assuming the consumption will raise by another third in the next 10 years. Singapore will start to produce desalinated water soon and recycle used water on high standard with an amazing quality. Very professional handling of resources in a country in southeast asia. Its the only place in se asia where I drink water from the tap !
