The Yamuna River accounts for more than 70 percent of Delhi's water supplies. Available water treatment facilities are however not capable of removing the pesticide traces that pollute the waters from the agricultural lands upstream. Worse still, Yamuna leaves Delhi as a sewer, laden with the city's biological and chemical wastes due to lack of treatment facilities. And downstream, at Agra, this becomes the main municipal drinking water source.
