The Winter Market in Åsele in southern Lapland used to support the "Sörkörare" - "south drivers" of the Nolaskogs area at the Baltic coast with merchandise from Lapland to be resold in Stockholm and Uppsala further south. This is no longer the purpose of the market; it is rather a time for several local activities like fishing competitions. But still you can buy local products like cheese, berries, smoked meat of reindeer, et cetera. There is also a Summer Market, in 2005 at July 15 - 18, which is a larger event.
