The morning of the solstice was nice and bright, after the snow that came the day before. I had already gotten up early to catch the actual moment of the solstice, but got back into bed afterwards. I woke up again to the nice sunrise, a good 3 hours after the solstice.

The tree-crown panorama is part of a series of panoramas. The reason I started shooting these panoramas was that even though I live along the oldest city park in the Netherlands, it is neigh impossible to make a panorama without lots of cars all around. With tree and shrubbery all around me, I figured I didn't have that problem.

The panorama was shot about 4-4.5 meter off the ground, using a custom pole to extend my tripod, and a wired remote release cord. To get a zenith shot, I have to get the camera down, adjust my panohead, and put the whole thing back in place again, twisting and turning in order not to disturb the tree branches...
