The Island you see is La Graciosa, a small island of volcanic origin vis-a-vis the Canary Island Lanzarote. The Panorama was taken from Mirador del Rio, a viewpoint situated in the northern part of Lanzarote. I choose this panorama because I also made one from the other side, the harbor of La Graciosa. You can see that panorama on my webpage http://www.simone-lahme.de/lanzarote/graciosa Mirador del Rio was build under the initiative of Cesar Manrique in 1975. Manrique formed the face of the island Lanzarote like no other man. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, ecologist, monument preserver, construction advisor, planner of urban developments, outliner of landscapes and gardens. He designed a lot of places of interest like the Cactus Garden (Jardin de Cactus), the Cesar Manrique Foundation, Jameos del Aqua and Casa del Campensino. There are neither high buildings that make the Island unattractive nor big ugly commercial signs on the streets. That gives the island a very special touch, though it is a touristy place. Manrique died in 1992 and laws seem to be less strict today than they used to be. Still Lanzarote is the most interesting Island of the Canaries to me personally.
