This panorama was taken in Vila Nova de Gaia, the city of Port Wine. All major brands have their wine cellars here, most of them situated along the river Douro.

On the other side of the river is Porto (Oporto is how it is known internationally). Porto is the second largest city in Portugal and is situated 330 km/(2:45 hours by train) north of the capital, Lisbon.

The bridge which connects Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto, is the double track Dom-Luis-Bridge constructed by Theophile Seyrig between 1881 and 1886. Since a couple of months the upper deck is exclusively used by a new metro line and pedestrians, replacing the never-ending stream of stinky and noisy cars, which used to invade the historical center of Porto.
