Stratford Hall Plantation is known primarily as the birthplace of the Confederate General Robert E. Lee (of the United States Civil War.) The grounds are now a museum, and the restaurant is available for banquets and other functions. I was there for my sister's wedding later that same day, and we took a tour of the grounds that morning. As with any southern plantation, the troubled history of slavery in the United States is always present in one's mind while touring the lush grounds.
