This panorama was taken in one of the several hides at the wildfowl & wetlands trust bird sanctuary at Arundel on the south coast of England. The area of land has been set aside by The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust to allow migrating birds some sanctuary whilst they stock up on energy before heading off over the sea. Not only are birds afforded sanctuary at this site, but it offers a perfect place for people to take time out of their day to relax and appreciate the nature that surrounds them. Whilst shooting this panorama a lorry driver popped in for a 1/2 hour break to look at the snipe before returning to his depo. Although the hides are not warm, they certainly provide a sanctuary from the inclement weather that England has to offer in December. Amongst the many birds visible that day we saw mallards, robins, a variety of geese and swans, snipe and a heron.

This southern part of England is a great area for migrating birds with the nearby RSPB bird sanctuary at Pulborough Brooks and the now perished Brighton West Pier where millions of starlings would gather before leaving the safety of land and heading south across the sea.

After the photoshoot for this panorama, both Bob (who is seen in the panorama) and I retreated to our own idea of sanctuary to warm up, this was the nearby cosy Black Rabbit Inn.
