"Sanctuary" is a word of many meanings, so this WWP topic allows for a lot of different interpretations. I've opted for the "a place offering protection" meaning, or, to be precise, for a place that had a loss of that ability. Hedges and shrubs offer significant safety for smaller animals, but are little more than a nuisance in an industrialized landscape. Here and all around the region, this winter saw quite some hedge thinning activity - the wind sure has it easier now to drive snow across the road. Can't say that I see any advantage in that.
