My brother Andy and I were going to collaborate on this one. He lives in Hawaii and I in California; we were both going to shoot our living rooms at the exact solstice: 8:08 pm in Hawaii, and 10:08 pm in California. Unfortunately, I was confused by the date, thinking it was to be Saturday the 22nd (as it was in most of the WWP world).
At about 10:30 Friday night, after spending several hours setting up the tree and hanging our 47-year collection of annual family portraits, I checked the solstice date and time once again, and was appalled to find that we'd missed it by a half hour. I called Andy; our houses were in upheaval, and he decided not to try to do it within the WWP window, but I scrambled and moved boxes and got the place in good enough shape to get this panorama done — missing the exact solstice by one time zone plus 11 minutes. And I never did get a fire built in the fireplace. Rats.
