Hakka woman laborer Silvermine Bay, Lantau Island
	Many parts of Lantau Island are served only by paths. These women are moving sand from the beach in baskets on carts. Their distinctive hats identify them as Hakka women, a farming group native to the area. The Hakka, also called the "guest people," apparently migrated to the Pearl River delta area in the 14th century. And despite their several hundred years in the area, they are viewed somewhat as outsiders.
