Don Bain's Virtual Reality Panoramas

See more "unwrapped" panoramas

QuickTime VR is a revolutionary technology pioneered by Apple Computer that allows you to interact with an image - you can look up, down, right, left, even around behind, and zoom in and out. It is the next best thing to being there.

Needless to say, this is a technology with immense implications for teaching and learning about geography and environment. These images were all created from photographs of actual places.

Requires QuickTime. This free software from Apple Computer, available for Macintosh or Windows, is necessary to view the panoramas. Download it before viewing.

The panoramas on this site are a selection drawn from the much larger collection on Don Bain's Virtual Guidebooks website. Virtual Guidebooks contains over 3000 virtual reality panoramas spanning western North America from Hawaii to Wyoming, from the Arctic Ocean to Baja California. It is extensively cross-referenced and searchable. The panoramas on Virtual Guidebooks are larger and more detailed than the ones here.

All images on this site (and on Virtual Guidebooks) are copyright. Please feel free to link to the site, or to individual panorama pages, but do not host these images on another site. For information about licensing use of the images contact Don Bain: dbain@virtualguidebooks.com.

Don Bain is Director of the Geography Computing Facility, University of California Berkeley. He may be reached at dbain@socrates.berkeley.edu.
