The Old Quarter

Jiddah, Saudi Arabia (1988)

On the Red Sea, Jiddah was the main city of Arabia for a long time. Port of entry for the Moslem pilgrims going to Mecca, it was the main commercial and harbor city of Saudi Arabia. Its long trading past has left old traditional houses mixing Indian and Arab architectures.

Moucharabiah are prominent windows and balconies made of wood completely closed, and allowing to look out at the street without being seen.
