Stone Houses

At Tawila, Central Yemen (1996)

Tall stone houses, wardens of the entry of a valley near At Tawila in central Yemen. Each house shelters one family and the different floors are devoted to a specific use : cowshed and storage on the first levels, then kitchen, then living rooms and at the top the mafraj, a guest room with a large view on the mountains and a place where the qat is chewed in the afternoon (see where qat is grown).
