North West from Sanaa is the small town of Shibam, where is held a weekly market each Friday, In Yemen each tribe (or main village or town) has its own market which gathers a large part of the surrounding population. Located in open air, with stalls or simply piles of items on the ground, the market is very popular and still active, in spite of development of a permanent shops network.
