Branding calves
Deep Springs Valley, CA (1988)
Grazing of livestock, generally sheep or cattle, is a common use on one-third of the United States, and is undertaken across about two-thirds of the countryÕs public land (public domain). This is both a prominent use and, increasingly, some source of controversy. However, it represents practices deeply established in time, and the economic life of ranching sustains many a small community that would not exist without grazing.
