Big cowboy
Texhoma, Texas (1987)
Just what the place of the "cowboy" should be in the American West is always an interesting question. Where the cowhand should be located among the American mythologies is a great academic topic; where the cowboy stands in public affection is quite clear. When even sleepy little towns along the Texas-Oklahoma border can summon the wit to place a forty-foot cowboy statue in the town square, there is no getting away from the public perception of what is important.
