| Northern California - Klamath Mountains and North Coast Ranges | |||
| The rivers on the north coast of California, the Smith and Klamath, are famous for their steelhead and salmon fishing. Both these fishes are anadromous: they breed in freshwater but live their lives at sea. In the fall when river flows increase there is a sudden surge of fish returning to breed in the streams where they were born. | |||
