The mountains of Eastern Afghanistan along the Pakistan border receive some summer moisture from the South Asia monsoon, resulting in woodlands and a few forests. Nuristan is a general name for this region, much it still largely inaccessible. Note the narrow cantilever bridge approach across the glacially-fed Komar River to the village on the bluff at right.
