An oasis is a point where there is water in a desert. Most of Morocco beyond the Atlas mountains is desert. The Sahara desert lies close to the mountains' eastern borders. Some deserts are sand; others are stony or rocky. Some deserts are flat plains; others are mountainous. A desert is defined by the scarcity of precipitation.
