Desert town family
Timtig, Draa Valley, Province of Ouarzazate

A man and his children in a small ksar in the Draa Valley of southern Morocco. This family is black and are members of the mixed race, known as haratine, of the region. Traditionally the haratine worked the fields of Arabs or Berbers and, although not actually slaves, were in a sense owned by specific families. Today, this family's children are all in school; the oldest son attends university in France.
