| The warm humid air that dominates in this region in the summer gives rise to numerous summer thunderstorms, especially where local convection or orographic effects enhance uplift. This view out the window of a commercial jet reveals a building thunderhead. The puffy top of the cloud (center top of the image) is the area of most active uplift. The lack of an anvil shape shows the clouds is rapidly building and has not yet reached a level where it can cease to rise. Why is this? | ||
