The tropical forest of Komodo Island has a dry season. Like other wet-dry forests, trees are not as tall, and deciduousness is common. The trees in this image have lost their leaves for the dry season. The openness of the environment is due to human burning and animal grazing. Wet-dry forests are the most threatened tropical forests in the world because their dry seasons allow for easy burning and conversion of natural vegetation to other human uses. |
